A Puzzlement

Lots of politicians and pundits are saying:

1. The U.S. situation in Iraq is hopeless.

2. By being there, the U.S. provokes killing and destruction.

3. The U.S. should not pull out immediately.

Why shouldn't the US pull out immediately?
